Villanova took their tough loss to Temple last week out on Lafayette. The Wildcats trounced the Leopards 59-0 Saturday evening at Villanova Stadium. The ‘Cats scored in all three phases of the game and they outgained Lafayette 505 yards to 77. Tight end Ryan Bell caught a pair of touchdowns, Taurus Phillips returned a punt for a touchdown and Jaquan Amos and Keeling Hunter each had interception returns for scores. About the only thing Villanova did wrong was have an extra point blocked, fumble the ball away at the Lafayette two-yard line (the Wildcats were leading 35-0 at the time) and commit 12 penalties.
“We were pretty upset after not winning last weekend,” said Villanova defensive tackle Ricky Young, “a game we thought we should’ve won so we came out and gave it our all.”
“Besides a couple penalties,” added quarterback Zach Bednarczyk, who had a touchdown run and was 13-of-15 for 237 yards and two touchdowns in one half of work, “I think we played really well. We came in with a little bit of an edge this week at practice and it showed on the field.”
The Wildcats (2-1) open CAA on Saturday at Albany.
Delaware (2-1) rolled over Cornell 41-14. The Blue Hens are off this week before they host defending FCS National Champion James Madison on September 30.

The University of Pennsylvania opened their season slowly, they trailed Ohio Dominican 10-7 at halftime but turned on the jets in the second half and pulled away to a 42-24 win. Wide receiver Justin Watson had 134 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches as the Quakers (1-0) rolled up 559 yards of total offense on the Panthers (0-3).
The Quakers visit Lehigh on Saturday afternoon.
Penn’s Ivy League rival Princeton opened with a 27-17 win over San Diego. The Tigers (1-0) are at Lafayette on Saturday.

It’s a short week for Temple (2-1), after the Owls beat UMss 29-21 on Friday night, they travel to No. 21/17 South Florida. It will be the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

West Chester bounced back from a tough loss at Slippery Rock by taking down Edinboro 62-28. Running back Jarel Elder had a touchdown catch and pair of touchdowns on the ground as he gained 167 all-purpose yards. The Golden Rams (2-1) are at Lock Haven Saturday afternoon.

Delaware Valley University (3-0, 2-0 MAC) pulled away from Wilkes in the fourth quarter to 34-14. The Aggies got an interception return for a touchdown from Shawn Miller and moments later the defense caused a fumble that set up Del Val’s final score. Saturday, the Aggies host defending MAC champion Stevenson.

Ursinus won for the second week in a row by the score of 35-28, The Bears (3-0, 2-0 Centennial) got a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns from running back Samuel Ragland, one to give them the lead for good and the other to provide some insurance. Ursinus is 3-0 for the first time since 2014 and is at Moravian on Saturday.

Widener (2-1, 2-0 MAC) beat Misericordia 34-21. On Saturday, the are at undefeated Albright in the 67th annual Rajah Shrine Pretzel Bowl.

Rowan (3-0, 2-0 NJAC) topped William Patterson 41-14. This weekend, the meet visiting Frostburg State (3-0, 2-0 NJAC) in a battle of undefeated teams.

Cheyney lost to IUP, the No. 5 ranked team in Division II, 65-16.
