It’s only week 3 of the college football season but already some teams have bye weeks and, of course, the Ivy League teams have yet to start. So while Penn and Princeton wait one more week to hit somebody in a different colored jersey, Temple (1-1), Villanova (1-1) and Delaware Valley (1-0) will all enjoy the weekend off.

West Chester (1-0) is ranked ninth in Division II coaches’ poll and will host Mercyhurst (0-1) in a PSAC game on Saturday at Noon. The Golden Rams won the only previous meeting with the Lakers, who joined the PSAC in 2008, 45-13 in 2009.

West Chester got four touchdown passes from quarterback Sean McCartney in their 35-30 season opening win over New Haven. However, head coach Bill Zwaan feels his team wasn’t at their best.

“I hope we’re going to show up and be a different team than we were last week,” he said.

The game will be broadcast live by PA SportsFever and can be seen on The Comcast Network, WPHL 17 and ESPN3.

Widener (1-0) looks to build on their upset on then No. 15 Rowan with a trip to Lebanon Valley College (0-1). The MAC opener for both teams kicks off at 1 P.M. In the win over Rowan on Friday night, the Pride’s Anthony Davis broke the school record for career receptions; the two-time All-American now has 194 catches.

“We can’t take a step backwards,” said Widener head coach Mike Kelly, who became the first Pride coach to win his debut since Zwaan in 1997. “We’ve got to go over to the defending conference champions for their home opener; they lost this (past) weekend so I’m sure we’re going to get their best shot. I’ve told our kids, if we’re not ready to play this game then all the positive things that happened Friday night will be for naught.”

Rowan (0-1), who fell out of the Division III poll after their loss to Widener, looks to rebound on a trip to Framingham State – which is the reigning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference champions. Kickoff is at Noon.

“I love the away trips,” said Rowan head coach Jay Accorsi. The Profs will be bussing up to Framingham, which is 20 miles from Boston. “I always look at it as a great experience for the players. You try to make light of it and have fun but you got to keep in the back of your mind it’s a business trip.”

Ursinus (1-0) opened the season Friday night with a win over The College of New Jersey. The Bears open Centennial Conference play when they host Gettysburg College (0-1) on Saturday at 1 P.M. They’ll be playing with a heavy hearts after the death of popular school president Dr. Bobby Fong, who passed away suddenly on Monday.

TCNJ (0-1) plays Friday night at 7 P.M. at FDU-Florham; it will be the season opener for the Devils. The Lions were held to just 54 yards on the ground by Ursinus so they’ll need to improve on that against the Devils.

Lincoln (1-0) hosts North Carolina Wesleyan (0-1) on Saturday at 1 P.M.

Cheyney (0-1), which opened the season, last Thursday night with a loss to Lincoln, will host Gannon (1-0) University on Saturday at 1 P.M.

Delaware (1-1) will host Colgate (0-1) at 6 P.M.

Delaware State (0-2) will take on Towson (0-2) at Alumni Stadium in Dover.

Wesley (1-0) opened the season with a 35-20 win over Thomas More and moved up to No. 4 in the Division III poll. The Wolverines are at Salisbury (1-0) Saturday at 6 P.M.
