Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights kickoff Big Ten’s 120th season at Beaver Stadium on Sept. 19

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 13, 2015 – For the second-straight season, Penn State will square off with Rutgers under lights in a primetime matchup on the Big Ten Network on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights will meet at Beaver Stadium for the first time since 1994.

The game time for the contest between Big Ten East Division foes will be announced at a later date. In addition to airing on the BTN, the game is also available on the Penn State Sports Network and GoPSUsports.com. The contest will mark the beginning of the Big Ten’s 120th football season.

Penn State will be playing a primetime game on BTN for the fifth consecutive season with a 4-1 record in those contests. The Nittany Lions won at Northwestern (2011), Iowa (2012) and Rutgers (2014) and lost at home to UCF by a field goal in 2013 on BTN.

The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights have met 25 times with the first meeting coming in 1918. Penn State holds a 23-2 lead in the series with a 13-2 mark in home games.

The squads met for the first time as Big Ten foes last season with Penn State rallying from a 10-point deficit to claim at 13-10 victory at Rutgers. Bill Belton scored on a 5-yard run with 1:13 left to give the Lions the lead and Ryan Keiser sealed the win with the defense’s fifth interception of the game.

Penn State will be playing at least one regular season night game for the 16th consecutive season. Additional Nittany Lion kick times will be announced later this spring.
