Student-Athlete Academic Recognition, THON and Celebrate Agriculture Day set for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kick

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; September 28, 2017 – The No. 4 Penn State football team will turn back the clock for a special “Generations of Greatness” game against Indiana Saturday in Beaver Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. for the Nittany Lions’ Big Ten home opener and fans are encouraged to wear their favorite Penn State jersey.

Elements of the game against the Hoosiers will take fans back in time, while the Nittany Lions will don uniforms with designs elements from uniforms past. Select “Generations of Greatness” game-worn jerseys, as well as “Generations of Greatness” helmets and gloves, will be available via auction at: GoPSUsports.cbsi-auctions.com starting at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The auction will continue until the evening of Tuesday, October 10.

Penn State continues to encourage fans to arrive early to Beaver Stadium and is offering several season long incentives for early arriving fans (see below). The combination of an increased number of early arriving fans, 31 new stadium entry lanes and additional staffing has seen entry wait times the first three games decrease from last season (see below). Beaver Stadium gates will open at 1:30 p.m. for the Indiana contest.

Before leaving home, fans should check their tickets to be sure the barcode and seat location is attached.

Student-Athlete Academic Recognition, Faculty-Staff and Celebrate Agriculture Day
At halftime, Penn State student-athletes who earned a 3.0 grade-point average during the record-setting 2017 spring semester will be recognized. A school spring semester record 495 Nittany Lion students delivered a 3.0 GPA or higher. In addition, overall records were broken as Penn State student-athletes earned a combined 3.14 GPA and 66 percent earned a 3.0 GPA or higher.

THON, Penn State’s annual 46-hour dance marathon that raises funds in the battle against pediatric cancer will be recognized during the game in addition to a Yellow Ribbon to the right of the “S” Zone. The College of Agricultural Sciences will be celebrating the origins of Penn State as the Farmers High School of Pennsylvania by Celebrating Agriculture before and after the game. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and PA Propane also are being recognized during Celebrate Agriculture Day.

The Penn State-Indiana game will air on BTN, the Penn State Sports Radio Network (2 p.m. airtime) and GoPSUsports.com. The 2017 Penn State football season is presented by PSECU.

Stadium Parking Lots Open at 8 a.m.; Fans Can Enter Stadium Gates B-F at 1:30 p.m.
Penn State Athletics is reminding patrons that Beaver Stadium gates will open two hours before kickoff for all games (1:30 p.m. for the Indiana game) and strongly encourages fans to arrive early to Beaver Stadium. Early arriving fans will have an opportunity to receive up to a 20 percent discount at the concession stands during the first 45 minutes after the gates are open, $5 off the official Penn State White Out short sleeve T-shirt, along with other incentives (see below).

The Beaver Stadium parking lots will open Saturday at 8 a.m., Fan Fest on Curtin Road begins at 11 a.m. and the Beaver Stadium ticket office, near Gate E, opens at 11:30 a.m. The team arrival presented by Lion Country Lodging is scheduled for approximately 1 p.m. and the stadium gates will open at 1:30 p.m., including the students’ Gate A.

During the team arrival, the Nittany Lions’ eight team captains will be handing out footballs signed by the captains and head coach James Franklin to eight fans lined up on Curtin Road.

Fans are reminded that they may enter Beaver Stadium at Gates B, C, D, E and F and use the ground level concourse to get to their seating section. During the initial three games, fans who entered at Gates D, F and C (in order) have seen reduced wait times during the two hours the gates were open before kickoff, while fans who entered at Gates B and E experienced heavier volume and longer waits. ADA patrons should enter the facility at the ADA Gate near Gate B on the west side of the stadium.

Early Arriving Fans Able to Receive Concessions and Penn State White Out T-Shirt Discounts; Meet the Nittany Lion, Cheer and Dance Team members
Early arriving fans every Saturday will have an opportunity to receive discounts at the concession stands and watch other college football games on the stadium videoboards. Beaver Stadium gates open this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Some of the incentives Penn State Athletics has implemented to encourage fans to enter the stadium early will be available on Saturday:

Fans will receive up to a 20 percent concessions discount ($1 off a $5 purchase, $2 off a $10 purchase etc.) during the first 45 minutes after the gates are open. Creamery ice cream, Kono Pizza cones and Middleswarth potato chips are available at stadium concessions locations this season for the first time. Cash, credit card and LionCash purchases are accepted at the concourse concession stands.
The official Penn State White Out short sleeve T-shirt will be $5 off at Penn State Bookstore locations inside the stadium during the first hour after the gates open.
Another college football game will be shown on the stadium videoboards starting two hours before kickoff until approximately 70 minutes before the Penn State game.
The Big Ten Championship trophy will be on display on the Pepsi Fan Zone (Above Gate A) when the stadium gates open until 30 minutes before kickoff for the Indiana game. Fans are then encouraged to find their seats in time for kickoff.
Fans also can meet the Nittany Lion and members of the Penn State Dance and Cheer team in the Pepsi Fan Zone during the first 45 minutes after the stadium gates open.

Fans Encouraged to Participate in Game Day Recycling Initiatives
Fans are encouraged to be environmentally responsible and participate in Penn State’s recycling and sustainability efforts by separating recyclable items before, during and after the game. Blue recycling bags and clear trash bags are located throughout the Beaver Stadium parking lots, including the entrance to most lots.

Only recyclable items should be placed in the blue bags – plastic bottles, glass bottles and metal cans. All other items should be placed in the clear trash bags. Bags should be securely closed and left where fans parked and they will be picked up after the lots close.

Proper recycling and garbage disposal help to preserve the environment and keep the University grounds well maintained. Penn State encourages all fans to take responsibility for their tailgates, to clean up when their tailgate ends and make sure all garbage and recycling are properly collected and placed in the appropriate bag.

Intercollegiate Athletics also has partnered with Penn State’s Office of the Physical Plant (OPP), Sustainability Institute and the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority (CCRRA) to help educate and promote recycling on game days. The Student Tailgate Ambassadors are leading the charge by engaging with fans in the Beaver Stadium parking lots and inside the stadium as well, including the Mount Nittany Club.
