Former Widener coach Isaac Collins
Isaac Collins has resigned as head coach of the Widener University football team to take the same position at Seton Hill University. In three seasons as mentor of the Pride, Collins compiled a 25-8 record including a victory in the 2011 ECAC South Atlantic Bowl and 11-1 mark in 2012.
In the just completed season, Collins led the Pride to their league-record 19th Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship with a 9-0 regular season. The school advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs but fell to eventual national champion Mount Union. In recognition of the fine season, Collins was named MAC and D3football.com East Region Coach of the Year.
Seton Hill, in Greensburg, PA, was 0-11 in 2012 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) and they’ve lost 13 games in a row. The Griffins are just 4-40 over the last four seasons and are moving to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for the 2013 season.
“Isaac brings a wealth of coaching leadership to Seton Hill,” said Seton Hill executive director, Athletics Chris Snyder in a press release. “He revitalized the football program at Widener in a very short period of time and he has a plan to do the same for Seton Hill.”
Prior to arriving at Widener, Collins served four years as defensive coordinator for The Citadel. Before that, he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Delaware in 2005 and the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Holy Cross in 2004. From 2000 to 2003, he was at Lehigh. Collins also participated in the National Football League Minority Fellowship Program, completing coaching internships for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001 and the New York Giants in 1999.
Collins also was an assistant coach at Hobart from 1994-98, serving as defensive coordinator his final year. Also, he was an assistant at Columbia from 1998-2000.
Widener has announced that a national search for Collins’ successor will begin immediately.
