The Giants 2017 season continues to unravel. A dispute between head coach Ben McAdoo and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie  that, according to a NFL source, started on the sideline during Big Blue’s 27-22 loss at home to the Los Angeles Chargers and continued during the beginning of the week, ended as badly as bad as it could have ended.

It is still unknown what the dispute was about, but it’s bad enough for the Giants and their veteran defensive back to part ways.

The Giants today officially designated Rodgers-Cromartie as reserve/suspended by the club. The suspension is without pay for an indefinite period.

To replace Rodgers-Cromartie on the roster, the team signed cornerback Donte Deayon off their practice squad. He could make his NFL debut on Sunday night, when the Giants face the Broncos in Denver. Deayon, 5-9 and 163 pounds, was impressive in the preseason, when he had six tackles (four solo) and intercepted a pass he returned 36 yards for a touchdown against the Jets.

Deayon spent the first six weeks of the 2016 season on the practice squad before being placed on injured reserve. He was a teammate of safety Darian Thompson at Boise State, where he started 36 of 40 games and finished his career with 155 tackles (111 solo), and 17 interceptions.

The Giants signed cornerback Brandon Dixon as a practice squad replacement for Deayon. Dixon, 5-11, 203, had eight solo tackles and an interception in 14 games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014.

Dixon entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft choice of the Jets in 2014, from Northwest Missouri State. In addition to his stint with the Bucs, Dixon was in training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2016, and has been on the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, who released him on Sept. 2.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, played in each of the Giants’ first five games, with three starts.
