Eagles head coach Doug Pederson didn’t take very long after the Eagles victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII to start preparing his team for making another run for the NFL title. Check out what Pederson had to say a few days after the title victory.

“Get used to this,” Pederson said. “This is the new norm in Philadelphia, playing and hopefully playing into February every year. It’s the new norm, so get used to it. Short off-seasons and let’s do that.”

Eagles Pro Bowl safety Malcolm Jenkins, who helped the New Orleans Saints win a Super Bowl title in his rookie year, thinks about those tough training camp practices when Pederson talks about the “New Norm”.

“For me, when I hear the term “the new norm”, Jenkins said, “I’m not thinking about the end result. I’m not thinking about the championships and the parades and all of that, I’m thinking about the work that it took to get to where we were. How we started last year, in April, and grinded and competed all the way throughout. And so for me, that’s kind of the new norm. That’s the standard and the base we’re trying to start from to try to defend that title.”

Eagles Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, believes that “the New Norm” requires the Birds to stay aggressive by refusing to be the team that everybody can start hunting. Instead, Ertz believes the Birds should continue to play the game with that “Underdog attitude” by refusing to be anything but the “Hunter” despite being the defending champs.

To Birds middle linebacker Jordan Hicks, who tore an Achilles and missed the end of the season, the playoffs and the Super Bowl, “the New Norm” means finding a way to stay healthy. “When I’m out there, I’m productive,” Hicks said. “For me, it’s stay healthy, play your game, and let it happen. I don’t have a problem or any question in my mind that if I’m healthy, I’m going to be productive. It’s just a matter of staying on the field.”

To Eagles franchise quarterback Carson Wentz, the “New Norm” isn’t anything new. “I’m kind of wired like Doug in that I expect to succeed and I expect winning seasons,” Wentz said. “I expect those things. That’s just how I’m wired. I think a lot of it from last year, the new norm is kind of who we were as a team, not so much the winning and the Super Bowl and all that stuff, but the culture. The new norm for the culture. The new norm for how we practice, how we approach each day, how we care for our teammates. I think there’s a lot more that can be unpacked for that phrase, ‘the new norm.”

Get used to winning Eagles fans and make sure you can get off of work next February. *
