EAGLES TROLL COWBOYS ON SEVERAL LEVELS WHILE SELECTING TE DALLAS GOEDERT

Eagles Hall of Fame kicker David Akers was asked to introduce the the Birds second round pick Friday night.
He delivered an epic troll of Dallas Cowboys fans, “Hey, Dallas, the last time you were in the Super Bowl, these draft picks weren’t born,” exclaimed Akers, who had to yell over the the thunderous booing delivered by Cowboys fans at AT&T Stadium. Akers voice was so shrill, he sounded like he had inhaled helium. But it was a classic.
Eagles Executive Vice President of Football Operations Howie Roseman handed Akers an envelope what would be an even worse insult to Jerry Jones after he pulled off a trade with the Indianapolis Colts to jump over the Cowboys (from No. 52 to 49) to grab tight end Dallas Goedert out of South Dakota State.
This was a player Dallas no doubt coveted after the sudden announcement that Cowboys future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten was retiring to take the gig as analyst on Monday Night Football (announced Friday night by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen).
Roseman was diplomatic after the heist.
“For us, we just wanted to make sure that we came out of today with one of the group of guys that we had from yesterday’s list,” Roseman said. “When those guys started to go, we wanted to make sure that we felt really good about our first pick, so we started making calls, and it ended up that we were able to do a deal with Indianapolis. Obviously, the relationship with Indianapolis, their head coach, their GM, so it was a win-win situation.”
During a conference call shortly after being picked, Goedert said that when he saw Witten had retired, he expected to be packing his bags for Arlington, TX.
“Yeah, the Cowboys were sitting there, and I think Philadelphia might have thought that as well, so they traded up right before them,” the 6-foot-5, 256-pounder said. “But yeah, that was definitely something that was in the back of my head when Jason retired was that they needed a tight end to fill his spot.”
Goedert said North State was his team’s biggest rival. He said he received a few text messages from Carson Wentz after his selction.
“The first one was: ‘Let’s go, homie,’ with (icons) sunglasses and a pound fist.”
Goedert talked about Wentz as a quarterback.
“You know, I’ve watched him play a lot being from NDSU [North Dakota State] and kind of a hometown person almost,” Goedert said. “I watched him a lot. He’s an incredible quarterback – the best in the NFL. To be able to play with him, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Goedart was asked if he watched the Super Bowl and saw the reaction winning it had in Philadelphia.
“Man, Philadelphia is a sports town,” he said. “They’ve got some of the best fans in the world. To be able to play there is going to be a lot of fun. I think they’re going to enjoy me a lot. So, I’m really excited to come and make a difference.”
The final troll came at the end of Goedert’s conference call when the 23-year-old revealed his father had actually name him after the Dallas Cowboys football team the Birds had just outsmarted.
Goedart said he never grew into much of a fan of the team his biological father name him after.
“My stepdad rubbed the Packers off on me,” he said.
Looks like Eagles fans will like having Goedert in an Eagles uniform.*
