The Philadelphia Eagles have signed LB Mychal Kendricks to a four-year contract extension, which will keep the linebacker in Philadelphia through the 2019 season.
Originally a second-round draft selection of the Eagles in 2012, Kendricks, 24, was immediately inserted as a starter during his rookie campaign and has since developed into one of the unit’s top playmakers. He has appeared in 42 games with 40 starts over his three seasons in Philadelphia, recording 333 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. Despite missing four games in 2014, he finished second on the team with 108 tackles, including a team-high 16 vs. Seattle (12/7/14).
In 2013, Kendricks became just the third Eagle since 1982 to notch at least four sacks and three interceptions in a season, joining Seth Joyner in 1991-92 and William Thomas in 1996. Kendricks established career highs in tackles (137) and interceptions (three) in his sophomore campaign, while leading the league with four fumble recoveries. As a rookie in 2012, he started 14 games and finished third on the team with 88 tackles.
A native of Fresno, CA, Kendricks starred collegiately at Cal, where he was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2011.
