Eagles-Lions Post-Game Notes (10.9.16)
• Carson Wentz threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns. With 1,007 passing yards this season, Wentz moved past Donovan McNabb and into fourth on the Eagles all-time rookie passing yardage list. With seven passing touchdowns, he is one shy of tying McNabb for the team rookie record in that category.
• Wentz’s 25 completions today ranked as a career high and the third-highest total ever by an Eagles rookie
• Wentz started his career by throwing 134 passes before his first interception. According to Elias, that ranks as the third-longest streak to start a career, behind Tom Brady’s 162, and Dak Prescott, who came into today’s game with a streak of 131 and has surpassed Wentz.
• Wentz’s passer rating has exceeded 100 in three of four games this season
• Ryan Mathews scored his first receiving touchdown of the season and the third of his career. He has reached the end zone in three of four games this season and has four total touchdowns.
• Caleb Sturgis connected on all three of his field goal attempts, including his 10th-career 50-plus yarder and his fourth with the Eagles. He also made a 49-yarder to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. It marked Sturgis’ 13th-career three-field-goal game.
• Josh Huff caught his first touchdown of the season, becoming the fifth different player to catch a TD pass for the Eagles this season
• Fletcher Cox recorded his 26th career sack, tying for 19th on the Eagles all-time list. Cox has four sacks this season, and eight sacks in his last eight games. He has at least one sack in six of the last eight contests.
• Bennie Logan has a sack in back-to-back games for the first time since 2013. Vinny Curry also picked up his first sack of the season. The Eagles defensive line has accounted for 12 of the 13 team sacks so far this year. Curry became the seventh different Eagle to post a sack in 2016
• After surrendering 21 first half points, 199 total net yards and 17 first downs in the first half, the Eagles held the Lions to just 3 points, 45 yards, 4 first downs in the second half. On the season, the Eagles defense has yet to allow a touchdown in the second half, and just six points overall.
• Leodis McKelvin played in his 100th career game
