COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 5 RECAP – WEST CHESTER’S LEX ROSARIO IS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The FootballStories College Football Player of the Week is Lex Rosario of West Chester University. The sophomore from Matamoras, PA had 13 catches for 193 yards and a touchdown in the Golden Rams 28-21 win over Shippensburg.
Other players who were under consideration for Player of the Week were Rosario’s teammate A.J. Long, Delaware Valley quarterback Dashawn Darden, Delaware State wide receiver Trey Gross, Widener quarterback Mitchell Vierling, Princeton quarterback John Lovett and Temple wide receiver Isaiah Wright.
Long threwfor 356 yards and three scores. He, Rosario and the rest of the Golden Rams (5-0, 2-0 PSAC East) put their No. 13 ranking on the line at Bloomsburg (2-3, 1-1 PSAC East).
Darden had three touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Aggies rallied from 17 points down to beat Stevenson 31-20. The defense allowed just three points after the first quarter. The Aggies (4-1, 3-0 Middle Atlantic) are off this week.
Gross had nine catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns but the Hornets lost to Norfolk State 54-28. This week, Delaware State (0-4, 0-1 MEAC) host the defending MEAC champion North Carolina A&T (4-1, 1-0 MEAC) who are ranked 11th at the FCS level.
Vierling came off the bench and led the Pride on a game-winning fourth quarter drive after Lebanon Valley had tied the game with a pick-six. Vierling was 6 for 6 for 50 yards on the drive including a 14-yard touchdown pass to Donte’ Harrell for the 27-21 win. Widener (2-3, 2-1 Middle Atlantic) travels to King’s (2-2, 1-1 Middle Atlantic) on Saturday.
Lovett threw for two touchdowns and ran for 174 yards and two more scores as the Tigers tamed Columbia 45-10. On Saturday, Princeton (3-0, 1-0 Ivy) entertains Lehigh (1-3).
In a 45-35 loss to Boston College, Wright caught seven passes for 114 yards and had 74 yards in kickoff and punt returns. The Owls (2-3, 1-0 American) have a Saturday afternoon clash with East Carolina (2-2, 0-1 American).
Penn lost for the first time this season, losing their Ivy League opener to Dartmouth 37-14. The Quakers (2-1, 0-1 Ivy) play their final non-conference game of the season at Sacred Heart (3-1, 1-0 Northeast).
Villanova came up just a little short at Stony Brook losing 29-27. Late in the game, the Wildcats had a chance to tie but they missed on a two-point conversion try. This week, Villanova (3-2, 0-2 CAA) is on the road again at Maine (2-2, 1-0 CAA).
Wesley beat Southern Virginia 28-7. On Saturday, a pair of top 10 teams will meet when the No.6 Wolverines (4-0, 3-0 NJAC) host No. 5 Frostburg State (3-0, 2-0 NJAC).
Rowan lost to Christopher Newport 39-6. The Profs (3-2, 2-2 NJAC) are off this week and will try to end their two-game losing streak when they play at TCNJ on October 13.
TCNJ (0-4, 0-3 NJAC) was idle this past week. They look for their first win of 2018 at Montclair State (4-0, 3-0 NJAC) on Saturday.
Lincoln lost to Johnson C. Smith 50-13. The Lions (0-5, 0-2 CIAA) hunt for their initial win of the season on Saturday at Virginia Union (3-1, 2-0 CIAA).
Ursinus suffered their first defeat of the season, it came at the hands of Johns Hopkins 52-6. The Bears (4-1, 3-1 Centennial) look to bounce back on Saturday against Muhlenberg (4-0, 4-0 Centennial).
Delaware (2-2, 0-1 CAA) had a bye. They travel to Richmond (2-3, 0-2 CAA) on Saturday.
