TO SIR WITH ELI…NOT HAPPENING

Al Thompson

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J – Davis Webb was a member of the Giants organization for just a few minutes when he received his first instructions from the team’s most prominent player.
Eli Manning called Davis soon after the Giants selected the University of California quarterback last week in the third round of the NFL Draft.
“I just wanted to welcome him to the team, let him know if he has any questions or needs anything in the next few days, I was here for him,” Manning said. “He responded to that with, ‘Yes, sir.’ I told him we were off to a bad start. Please do not refer to me as sir. I appreciate the manners, but we’re teammates. I was always taught the same thing. Anyone older than me, I have to call them sir. But hopefully, we straightened that out.”

BIG BLUE PICKS DAVIS WEBB IN THIRD ROUND TO BACK UP MANNING

Michael Eisen

It’s very likely that no one in the NFL is better suited to coach Davis Webb than Ben McAdoo.
On Friday night, the Giants selected Webb in the third round of the NFL Draft, the 87th overall selection, which is later than he would have preferred to go. Webb played last season at the University of California, and will begin his NFL career learning behind a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in Eli Manning.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Since 2012, when the NFL expanded to 32 teams, only three teams have finished first in run defense and last in pass defense in the same season: the 2006 and 2007 Minnesota Vikings, and the 2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

HARPER FEELING GOOD ABOUT HIS CHANCES WITH BIG BLUE

Al Thompson

It is a good bet that it was not lost to the New York Football Giants scouting department that Kenneth Harper was awarded one of the prestigious single-digit jerseys given to the toughest guys on the Temple football team his senior season.
The 5-foot-10, 233 pounder played in every game for Temple since 2011.
One major criticism of the Giants in 2014 was its lack of toughness and Harper certainly brought that up Interstate 95 this spring.
