The Eagles season has mercifully come to a close. The Eagles didn’t really lose to the Washington Redskins Saturday night; they screwed the game up a bit more than their opponent.
Washington (8-7) clinched the NFC East and thus advanced to the Super Bowl tournament as the No. 4 seed in the NFC where anything can and has happened.

As the Eagles prepared for their game against the Washington Redskins and kept an eye on the torrid (OK, tepid) playoff race in the NFC East, a larger question loomed that impacts not only the remainder of this season but many years to come.

The Eagles lost to the Arizona Cardinals 40-17 at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday night on national television.
Incredibly the Birds are still in control if the NFC East despite the win by the Washington Redskins and despite falling to 6-8 on the season.
If the Birds come away with wins over Washington at home next Saturday night and against the Giants the following Sunday, they host a playoff game.
Last month, the Giants brought back a member of their Super Bowl XLVI championship team when they signed wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.
This week, they reached deeper into their past when they signed defensive tackle Barry Cofield, who played on the Giants team that won Super Bowl XLII. Many of the Eagles in the post game locker room sported T-Shirts that said “53 Angry Men.”
The slogan on the shirts provided by Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie is an obvious reference to their rekindled passion on the field.
For the past two weeks the Eagles have played angry and the result was wins over teams many thought this team would not win.
