Boston College’s Andre Williams rushed for 2,177 yards, averaged 6.1 yards a carry and was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2013, a trio of achievements that would seem to be worthy of a first-round selection. But for the second year in a row, no backs were taken in the first round. And when the Giants were on the clock to make their fourth-round choice, Williams was available. So the Giants added him to their stable of backs with the 113th overall pick.

Times surely have changed. I read my first mock draft for the 2014 draft prior to the championship games this past year. Its was like going into Walmart in October and seeing Christmas Trees. It was just too darn soon. But that is the age of anticipation that we live in and the NFL is trying to keep pace with the demand for any information on any player and what any team may be inclined to do.

When the Widener Pride take the field to open the 2014 football season at Rowan University on September 5, they will do so with a new coach. Mike Kelly was named to replace Bobby Acosta, who left after one season at the helm to become the tight ends coach at Syracuse University.

Temple University today announced its 2014 football schedule. The Owls will begin their 116th season of competition on Thursday, August 28 in a nationally televised game (SEC Network) at Vanderbilt.
