The Eagles are not building for the future, their hand is out on the table for everyone to see. The Birds brass are positioning this team to win a Super now.

Yeah, every team says..”It’s our goal to win the Super Bowl” each year.

But 7-1 does not happened every year, even for the Patriots and Steelers.

The Eagles want it and they want it now.

That became as evident as it can ever be when the Eagles acquired Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Eagles do not seem concerned about the feelings of their other running backs including LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood, Kenjon Barner and rookie Corey Clement.

Offensive coordinator Frank Reich was asked how can he keep five running backs happy?

“Keep winning,” He said with a laugh. “Winning has a way of keeping everybody happy.”

Originally a fifth-round draft choice of the Dolphins in 2015 (149th overall), Ajayi has played in 31 games (19 starts) and has carried 447 times for 1,924 yards and 9 TDs. Additionally, he has registered 48 career receptions for 308 yards.

Reich was in full locker room damage control when asked about how to approach Blount who has a reputation of being a handful when he’s not happy.

“Keep doing what you’re doing.” was the message Reich said he will Blount. “You’re a big reason we’re 7-1. You’re a big reason we made the strides we made in the running game. Your tenaciousness running the football, the attitude you’ve brought, the toughness that you’ve brought and the unselfishness you’ve brought is a big part of our identity. So that’s what we hope for to continue.”

In 2016, Ajayi earned a Pro Bowl berth after finishing fourth in the NFL with 1,272 rushing yards, marking the third-highest single-season total in Dolphins’ history. Over the course of the season, Ajayi registered three 200-yard rushing games, becoming just the fourth player in NFL history to accomplish the feat. His 200-yard games earned him three AFC Offensive Player of the Week awards and he was named Miami’s 2016 Dan Marino Most Valuable Player.

One thing Ajayi brings to the table none of the running backs have brought this year is blocking especially on third down.

With left tackle Jason Peters out for the season no better options than putting Halapoulivaati Vaitai in his spot, the Birds needed to make a move to sure up pass protection and Ajayi is one of the better running backs who picks up blitzes.
