WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT KIKO ALONSO TRADE

Chip Kelly’s September 15 Press Conference

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on Twitter last night at about 7 o’clock E.S.T. Several other organizations confirmed Schefter’s tweet. LeSean McCoy is going to the Buffalo Bills for LB Kiko Alonso. The trade cannot be made official until the NFL’s new league year begins on March 10, 2015.

Alonso is a former Oregon Football player, but is that the only reason Chip Kelly picked him up? In 2013 Alonso finished third in the NFL with 159 tackles. NFL Films ranked him the 84 out of 100 of the top Professional Football Players of 2014. Alonso fell off the radar shortly thereafter because of an ACL tear that took him the duration of the 2014 season to recover from.

This is not the first time Buffalo has come to Philadelphia looking for a Running Back. Last year Buffalo traded a conditional draft pick for RB Bryce Brown. Fans have seemed shocked by the news. It doesn’t take a statistician to notice Philadelphia Eagles Fans making angry comments about McCoy being traded for a player most Philadelphia fans have never heard of, let alone a former Oregon Duck.

There is no doubt that McCoy is an amazing player. LaDainian Tomlinson reported to NFL Network on Tuesday that in a conversation two weeks ago McCoy didn’t feel like he was headed back to Philadelphia. McCoy lead the league in rushing in 2014. Although his contract negotiation seems to have taken a real turn when today it was announced he was being traded to the Buffalo Bills.

Philadelphia fans feel slighted, but why? It is nothing new for the Eagles to clear cap space. Just ask recent releases Trent Cole, Todd Herremens, Cary Williams and soon to be DeMeco Ryans. McCoy is slated to make 9.75 million this next season and in all seriousness Buffalo is the team taking all the risk. Taking a seasoned back and trying to add him to a system that runs more is not a great idea. Although something Philadelphia as a professional sports town in general seems to suffer with is developing and keeping talent. Something Michael Carter Williams from the Philadelphia 76ers is well aware of.

It’s a wonder what Coach Kelly is doing. Is he making a move for more cap space? Several people have claimed Kelly wants to pick up QB Marcus Mariota. Perhaps Kelly will pursue Detroit’s DT Ndamukong Suh. One thing is for sure, the Eagles are making interesting moves this offseason.
