PHILADELPHIA ADDS PLAYER FROM OPEN TRYOUTS

PHILADELPHIA (February 2, 2015) – The Arena Football League’s Philadelphia Soul held successful private and open tryouts – drawing over 225 prospective players between their open tryout at the Philadelphia Eagles’ NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia and a private workout at their practice facility at the Nexxt Level Coliseum in Voorhees, NJ this past weekend. The Soul welcome fullback Devin Brown (5’11, 250, Prairie View A&M) to their roster following the workouts.
“We are extremely pleased with the turnout in players we saw this weekend,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “We have been fortunate to find a few players from these workouts every year. Brown is a guy that we feel can help us and we are excited to see what he can do during training camp.”
Brown, a Houston, TX native, play collegiately at Prairie View A&M where he recorded 42 rushes for 178 rushing yards, 8 receptions for 91 receiving yards, and two touchdowns during his two-year career with the Panthers.
Brown adds his name to the list of players that have been invited to training camp from the tryouts. The most notable over the years: Ryan McDaniel, Millersville’s Sean Scott and Penn State’s Jerome Hayes. In two seasons with the Soul, McDaniel racked up 145 receptions for 1,845 yards and 40 touchdowns in 24 games. His standout game came when he had an impressive 13 catches for 137 yards and two-touchdown performance in ArenaBowl XXVI.
Players report to training camp on Friday, March 6. The Soul kick off their 2015 campaign on Sunday, March 29 against the Orlando Predators at the Amway Arena in Orlando.
