PHILADELPHIA- The Philadelphia Soul have been fortunate to be coached by some top-level talent over the past ten seasons. One coach, however, has brought home an ArenaBowl championship. Bret Munsey coached the Soul from 2006-08 and was responsible for coaching the 2008 team that defeated the San Jose SaberCats in ArenaBowl XXII. Munsey is now playing a critical role in a 2016 NFL Playoffs, as his team prepares for another World Championship.

Munsey currently serves as the Special Teams Assistant Coordinator for the playoff-bound Washington Redskins. The Redskins (9-7) are the NFC East Division Champions and recently secured the fourth seed in the 2015 playoffs.

“Working in the Arena Football League offered me one of the best coaching experiences I could have ever hoped for.” said Munsey. “Many of the lessons I learned at that level have and will continue to help me in my career. While at the Philadelphia Soul, I was fortunate to have worked with an extremely professional ownership group and front office staff, in addition to extraordinarily talented players and coaches. We were the best in the league and that is how we won a championship. I hope that I can translate the successes I have had in the past into a playoff victory on Sunday.”

Munsey joined the Redskins after previously working as a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Prior to his time with the Eagles, he coached the Orlando Predators from 2011-2012. Additionally, he served as the director of player personnel for the Florida Tuskers of the UFL for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, where he worked alongside current Redskins head coach and former AFL head coach (Orlando Predators) Jay Gruden.

He began his coaching career as the defensive coordinator of the Augusta Stallions of af2 in 2000. He spent one season with the Carolina Cobras in 2001, before returning to the af2 as head coach of the Tennessee Valley Vipers in 2002. After that Munsey began his first stint with the Predators as the team’s secondary coach and director of player personnel from 2003-05.
