MARCH 11, NOVACARE COMPLEX – The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have agreed to terms with free agent safety Malcolm Jenkins on a three-year contract.

The New Orleans Saints defensive captain in each of the past two seasons, Jenkins (6-0, 204) appeared in 71 games (63 starts) with 358 tackles, six interceptions, six forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks in five seasons with the Saints, seeing time at both cornerback and safety. In 2013, Jenkins started 14 games at safety, notching 68 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed for a Saints team that ranked second in the NFL in opponent’s passing yards per game.

In 2012, Jenkins, 26, started all 13 games he appeared in at free safety, finishing third on the team with 95 tackles, five passes defensed, one blocked field goal and an interception returned 55 yards for a score. He notched a career-high 97 tackles and 11 passes defensed in 15 games in 2011.

Following his rookie campaign, Jenkins transitioned from corner to safety and flourished at his new position, earning second-team Associated Press All-Pro honors in 2010 after finishing the season with 82 tackles, two interceptions, one sack and 11 passes defensed.

A former first-round selection of New Orleans in 2009, he appeared in 14 games (six starts) as a rookie in 2009 and stood out on the Saints special teams units, making nine stops and forcing two fumbles.

In addition to his contributions on the field, Jenkins has helped make a positive impact in the Greater New Orleans community since entering the league. In 2010, Jenkins launched the Malcolm Jenkins Foundation to assist the lives of local youths, particularly those in underserved communities, by providing resources, opportunities and experiences that will help them succeed in life. Jenkins was the 2013 winner of the John Wooten Professional Leadership Award, which recognizes a lifetime commitment to service and unparalleled leadership on and off the field.

A four-year letterman at Ohio State, Jenkins was a consensus All-American as a senior in 2008 and was honored with the Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top defensive back in the country. An All-Big Ten selection in each of his final three years in Columbus, Jenkins totaled 196 stops, 11 interceptions, 18 passes defensed, three blocked punts and four forced fumbles during his collegiate career.

A native of Piscataway, NJ, Jenkins helped lead Piscataway High School to three consecutive state titles while playing wide receiver and defensive back.
