TEMPLE’S MICHAEL DOGBE IS THE FOOTBALLSTORIES COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The FootballStories College Football Player of the Week is Michael Dogbe of Temple University. The senior defensive lineman from Morris Plains, NJ had a career day leading the Owls impressive defensive effort as they beat the University of Maryland 35-14 to score their first victory of the season. Dogbe, 6-3, 280, is a pro prospect who earned a single-digit jersey this season and was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Against the Terps, he had seven tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and a pair of forced fumbles. The Owls defense held the Terps offense out of the end zone and limited them to 195 yards total offense.

It’s a short week for Temple (1-2) as they host Tulsa (1-2) on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Other players who were under consideration for the Player of the Week were Dogbe’s teammate linebacker Shaun Bradley, who had a sack and an interception return for a touchdown. Delaware wide receiver Joe Walker, Penn linebacker Brian O’Neil, Samuel Ragland, a running back for Ursinus, West Chester University linebacker Tyler Morrissey and quarterback A.J. Long, tight end Ryan Bell of Villanova, quarterback Khaaliq Burroughs and wide receiver Alex Kemp for Wesley. Princeton wide receiver Jesper Horsted, Widener running back Chris Randle, and quarterback Dashawn Darden, of Delaware Valley.

Penn opened the season by besting Bucknell 34-17, O’Neil had a career-high 11 tackles including two for loss as the Quakers held the Bison to 189 yards total offense. The Red and Blue (1-0) meet Lehigh (1-2) on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field.

Princeton also opened with a victory, winning 50-7 at Butler. Horsted had 140 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches. The Tigers (1-0) home opener is Saturday with Monmouth (2-1) visiting.

Villanova will look to bounce back from their first loss of 2018, they fell at home to Towson 45-35. Bell hauled in eight passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. On Saturday, the 14th ranked Wildcats (2-1) are home again as they host Bucknell (0-3).

Delaware beat Cornell 27-10 to improve to 2-1. Walker had six catches for 154 yards and caught a touchdown that put the Blue Hens ahead to stay. On Saturday, the Blue Hens, who received votes in the national polls, face the number one team in the country North Dakota State (2-0).

Delaware State (0-3) lost to Western Michigan 68-0. The Hornets are off this week.

West Chester rolled over Seton Hill 59-14. Long accounted for 393 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. Morrissey took home PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors with nine tackles including 2.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The Golden Rams (3-0), who are ranked 13th, will host Millersville (0-3) on Saturday.

Lincoln (PA) lost to Clarion 44-7. The Lions (0-3) open CIAA play at Livingstone College (1-1) on Saturday.

Wesley had no trouble with TCNJ, winning 62-0. Burroughs threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns while Kemp caught eight passes for 108 yards and two scores. The seventh-ranked Wolverines (2-0) host William Patterson (0-2). TCNJ (0-3) is at Salisbury (2-0) both games are on Saturday.

Rowan pushed past William Patterson 22-6. This Saturday, the Profs (3-0) visit No. 6 Frostburg State (2-0).

Widener fell to 0-3 with a 36-35 loss when Misericordia scored a touchdown with four seconds left then converted a two-point conversion for the win. Randle had 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns but it wasn’t enough for the Pride, who host Albright (0-3) on Saturday afternoon.

Delaware Valley beat Wilks 21-10 behind the running of Darden, who scored on runs of 69 and 15 yards while totaling 145 yards on the ground. The Aggies (2-1), who are ranked 21st in the D3Football.com poll and 20th in the AFCA poll, host Alvernia (1-1) Saturday at noon.

Ursinus got three more touchdown runs from Ragland, who now has seven in the last two weeks, as they won at Juniata 35-14. Moravian (2-1) visits Collegeville on Saturday.
