CAPITALS WIN EXHIBITION AGAINST NEW ENGLAND OPPONENT

Backup QB and CFL Hopeful RaShown Roach

Central Penn Capitals defeat the Connecticut Chiefs 45-35

In some people’s lives weeks happen in a day and days happen in weeks. Take for instance the slow and steady grind of what may have seemed inevitable for the AIFL defending champions. The Central Penn Capitals will hopefully see another AIFL Postseason run this year. Although admittedly they have a lot of work to do. To the casual observer their season may just seem like another year. On the ground though the Capitals are seeing major changes. A few different quarterbacks, a few different coaches, and a new place to play. The Capitals are churning and changing but if you left last years AIFL championship win versus the Chicago Blitz and showed up today, you wouldn’t notice a difference.

For others weeks happen in days. Take for example RaShown Roach backup quarterback for the Capitals. His morning started at home, he drove to New Jersey for a CFL tryout with Capitals WR Rob Bliler with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and then to Harrisburg Pennsylvania for another spot on the sideline just in case. Its not that starting QB Ray Wagner had a bad game he had 16 attempts for 7 completions and 130 yards passing. He would leave the game injured. He left the game with a score of 33 to 21.

If you’re going to hand a game over to the backup, it is best to do so after a performance of that nature. Roach basically cleaned up for Ray but he handled the ball well going for 9 attempts and 3 completions and over 80 yards passing. He controlled the offense to the end and completed with style. Roach helped to add 12 points to the board. He finished a long day on the upside. He did more today than most people do in a week.

The defense and special teams game was run to the ground by the trench fighters. DB Armar Watson recovered an interception, Michael Bibbs recovered a fumble on a kickoff. Bastille Davis recovered an interception, Bryan Lewis sacked the Connecticut Chiefs QB for a major loss on 4th down. Lamar Ledbetter recovered an INT too. In all the Chiefs should have just stopped passing. When you can’t run the ball, or pass its better to just lob and pray it seems.

The Capitals have a new coach. Former Coach Rick Marsilio has moved on. As he always said, “In this league, change is constant.” His self fulfilling prophecy came true. Andre Coles is now the coach and today was his fourth game. The Capitals looked fresh, and even hungry. Coach Coles said that’s what he wanted. He moved some rookies up and used some new philosophies on both sides of the ball. It seems so far to be working. The Capitals look ready to make a postseason push, provided that don’t have to much change in the future.
