UNDEFEATED SOUL TOP THE BRIGADE, 61-56 ON DEFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN IN FINAL MINUTE

Former Temple standout Sean Daniels scooped up a fumble and scored with 33 seconds left to lift the Soul to a 61-56 win over Baltimore.

PHILADELPHIA— The Philadelphia Soul (5-0) defeated the Baltimore Brigade (1-4), with the final score 61-56 in front of 9,487 fans at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.

“Tonight was a tough one. Baltimore brought their game,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “While we did end up with the victory, it was a messy game. I was proud of the guys for how they came back in the forth. We have a lot to work on this week before we take on Cleveland.”

Soul WR Darius Reynolds led the receivers with eight receptions for 105 yards and three touchdowns. WR Ryan McDaniel added seven receptions for 86 yards and three touchdowns and WR Shaun Kauleinamoku tallied six receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Baltimore WR Julian Talley led the receivers with seven receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

Philadelphia QB Dan Raudabaugh completed 22-of-32 passes for 268 yards and eight touchdowns. Baltimore QB Shane Carden completed 20-of-34 passes for 291 yards and five touchdowns.

The Soul won the coin toss and elected to kick off to the Brigade. On their first drive of the game, Carden found Talley for a 14-yard touchdown. Clarke’s kick was good; Baltimore took the 7-0 lead. On the Soul’s first drive, Raudabaugh’s pass was intercepted by Victorian for a 20-yard touchdown. Clarke’s kick was good; Brigade led 14-0 with 8:09 left to go in the first quarter. The Soul were unable to complete a first down and the Brigade took over the ball. The first quarter ended with a score of 14-0.

The Soul kicked off the second quarter with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh to Reynolds. Trevino’s kick was good; Soul still trail 14-7. With 10:51 to go, Carden found Thompkins for a 43-yard touchdown pass. Clarke’s kick is good; Soul fell behind 21-7. The Soul bounced back when Raudabaugh threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to McDaniel, the Soul trailed 21-14. With 5:29 left in the half, Goosby intercepted Carden’s pass to give Soul possession of the ball. Raudabaugh found McDaniel for a 14-yard touchdown that closed the gap, 21-21. Carden ran the ball in two-yards for another Baltimore touchdown to end the first half. The Soul trailed 28-21.

The Soul started off the second half with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh to Reynolds. Trevino’s kick was good; the Soul tied up the game 28-28. The Brigade came back when Carden connected with Talley for a 44-yard touchdown. With 8:50 left in the third quarter, the Soul fell behind 35-28. Raudabaugh threw to Kauleinamoku for a six-yard touchdown. Kick is good; with 1:32 left in the third quarter the Soul tied it up 35-35.

The Brigade reclaimed the lead when Carden threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Paul Browning. The Soul trailed 42-35. With 8:57 left in the game, Raudabaugh found Kauleinamoku for a
15-yard touchdown pass to tie it up again, 42-42. Carden connects with Thompkins for the 49-yard touchdown pass that put the Brigade back in the lead, 49-42. Raudabaugh threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Reynolds to tie it back up, 49-49.

Carden runs it in for a one-yard touchdown run with 0:52 left to go in the game. Soul fell behind 56-49. Raudabaugh threw a two-yard touchdown pass to McDaniel for his third touchdown of the game. Kick is no good. Soul trailed by one, 56-55. Carden fumbled, Daniels ran it in for a 39-yard touchdown with 0:33 seconds left in the game. Failed two-point conversion attempt left the Soul in the lead 61-56. The Brigade is turned the ball over on downs with eight seconds left. Soul win 61-56.
