Mayor Kenney Declares Wednesday “Philadelphia Soul World Champions Day”

PHILADELPHIA– The Philadelphia Soul is pleased to announce that there will be a championship celebration rally at the City Hall Courtyard at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31. Following the rally, which is expected to last 45 minutes, the team will head to Chickie’s and Pete’s in South Philly to continue the celebration.

The Soul defeated the Arizona Rattlers 56-42 last Friday night in ArenaBowl XXIX to claim their second Arena Football League World Championship in 11 seasons.

“The Soul has brought home a city championship and we are proud to recognize this day,” said Mayor Kenney. “I declare Wednesday, August 31 2016, ‘Philadelphia Soul World Champions Day’ in Philadelphia and hope everybody comes out to celebrate the Soul for making our city proud.”

At the rally, Mayor Kenney will be joined by the Philadelphia Soul ownership group, including former Philadelphia Eagle Ron Jaworski, the Soul coaching staff, players, dance team and front staff. Championship merchandise will be available for sale. Food vendors will be on-site for food and beverage purchase.

At Chickie’s and Pete’s, the Soul ownership group, coaching staff, players, dance team and front office staff will be in attendance. The event will be open to the public and begin at 2 p.m. and there will be a live radio broadcast as well as a DJ and drink specials will be available.
