The Philadelphia Eagles shocked the NFL world tonight with the announcement that owner Jeffrey Lurie fired Head Coach/Player Personnel Director Chip Kelly with one game left in a highly disappointing season that ends Sunday at the Meadowlands against the Giants.

Questionable personnel moves, multiple complaints about Kelly’s disconnection with players and a series of humiliating losses this season have all led to the Eagles 6-9 record.

Losing to the Washington Redskins at home last week…a loss that eliminated the Eagles from the playoffs…and watching the Redskins celebrate their NFC East title in his stadium may have been the last straw.

National Media has already tabbed former Eagles Defensive Coordinator and current Carolina Panthers Defensive Coordinator Sean McDermott as the early front runner for the job.

It is unclear where former personnel director Howie Roseman will land when the dust clears.

Today, Lurie, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles, released Head Coach Chip Kelly.
“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward,” said Lurie.

Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Ed Marynowitz, Vice President of Player Personnel, was also released.

Tom Donahoe, former General Manager of the Buffalo Bills and Director of Football Operations for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Senior Football Advisor for the Eagles since 2012, will assume the role of Senior Director of Player Personnel.

A press conference with Lurie will be held Wednesday, December 30 at the NovaCare Complex at 12:00 p.m.
