ON THE BIRDS: EAGLES LOSE TOUGH ONE TO RAIDERS

Quarterback Donovan McNabb, center, (5) is sacked by Oakland Raiders defensive end Greg Ellis, left, in the first quarter of an NFL football game in Oakland, CA
The Eagles fooled everyone Sunday.
No one thought it could happen, but it did. The Eagles dropped a shocking 13-9 loss to the Oakland Raiders on the road.
The Eagles offense was flatter than pancakes, producing just three David Akers field goals. The veteran kicker missed two makeable field goals during the game that will no doubt raise more questions about Akers dependability which has dropped over the last few years.
Zach Miller’s 86-yard touchdown catch, Justin Fargas ran for 87 yards and the Raiders’ defense knocked Donovan McNabb all day in the Raiders’ 13-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
After a first-half injury to left tackle Jason Peters, the Eagles were forced to protect McNabb with just one starting offensive linemen. Only center Jamal Jackson was a starter. King Dunlap looked like a swiveling bar stool against Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour, who recorded two of the Raiders six sacks.
The Raiders (2-4) had lost three straight games by at least 20 points for the first time in franchise history and failed to reach 200 yards of offense the past four, while the Eagles (3-2) were second in the league in points per game.
The Eagles abandoned the run early and only had Michael Vick on the field for two plays as they failed to score a touchdown for the first time all season.
Philadelphia’s last chance ended when McNabb fired low to DeSean Jackson on fourth-and-4 from the Oakland 44 with 2:14 remaining. McNabb finished 22 for 46 for 269 yards.
Akers earlier missed a pair of field goals for the Eagles, a 43-yarder wide left in the first quarter and a 47-yarder wide right in the third quarter that proved crucial down the stretch.
Raiders much-maligned QB JaMarcus Russell iced the game with a 12-yard pass to Gary Russell on third-and-10. He ran out the clock after that to the delight of the fans, who began the game by booing their quarterback.
Russell completed 17 of 28 passes for 224 yards, with two interceptions and the touchdown to Miller that was the longest pass play in 25 years for the Raiders.
Russell found Miller open over the middle on a pass 16 yards downfield. Miller then ran up the sideline and got sprung by a great block by Louis Murphy that flattened Quintin Mikell. As Miller got close to the end zone, he slowed up to give Murphy time to catch up and block Ellis Hobbs to help complete the 86-yard catch and run.
That proved to be the only touchdown of the game, but that was enough for Oakland. Sebastian Janikowski kicked two field goals on drives keyed by hard running by Fargas.
Seymour and Trevor Scott each had a pair of sacks for Oakland as the Eagles ran the ball just 14 times against a Raiders defense missing star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha for much of the game with an eye injury.
NOTES:
Miller had six catches for 139 yards….
Brian Westbrook now 2nd all-leading Eagles rusher … With 50 rushing yards, RB Brian Westbrook moved past Steve Van Buren (5,860) and into 2nd place on the Eagles all-time rushing list. Westbrook has logged 5,905 yards as an Eagle and now trails just Wilbert Montgomery (6,538).
